Rules of conduct in Thailand

Acceptance and tolerance - the main national trait of the people of Thailand, but do not abuse it. There are several rules of conduct, the observance of which will make your vacation on Samui more comfortable and leave a favorable impression after you.

Thailand is a country of soft and smiling people, and Buddhism is the main religion of this kingdom. Kindness and friendliness are very important qualities for the followers of this religion. Here are rare rude and not responsive locals. Warmth and cordiality have long been the hallmark of the population of this beautiful country. Join in and Smile! All doors will open to you, and the habit of rejoicing and being in a good mood will give many happy moments in the future.

We recommend:

  • Respond politely to Buddha and Buddhism and not desecrate religious sites and places of pilgrimage.
  • Not to mention in a negative light the King and His family. Thais with great trepidation belong to His Majesty the King.
  • To transfer money from hand to hand gently. Do not step on the banknotes if they fell; the king is depicted on them.
  • Visiting a Buddhist temple, cover your shoulders and knees.
  • Do not touch the statue of Buddha.
  • While sitting in the temple, try to keep your toes not pointing at the Buddha statue.
  • Women cannot touch the monks.
  • Manifestations of feelings in people (kisses, hugs, etc.) are not welcome.
  • Do not try to hug the Thai, expressing gratitude orally is enough.
  • Do not touch the head of the Thai, even if it is a child. The head is regarded as the seat of the soul and is an intimate place.
  • Take off shoes at the entrance to any private room and temple.
  • Do not point to anything with your foot or finger.
  • In public places, wear something over a bathing suit. Topless is banned in Thailand. Moreover, according to Thai law, women cannot wear outerwear without underwear.
  • In official institutions it is better to dress more strictly.
  • Bargaining is appropriate, with the exception of restaurants, cafes, etc.
  • Thailand and, in particular, Samui are struggling with the widespread presence of plastic and polyethylene. Say no to plastic! Do not use disposable plastic bags! Let's keep our dear planet alive and green!
  • “Sa-va-di Kaa (spot for men)” - hello; “Kopun kaa (krap)” - thanks.

Best regards,

Baan Tropic Company.
